DAY 1 IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE-December 20

It was such a great feeling to wake up after a good night's sleep in cozy warm beds.  So we're here with nothing to do, so what should we do?

We play a few rounds of Phase 10 after breakfast...Carson's request.  We make a rainbow loom bracelet...Walker's request.  Mason lays in bed reading.  Porter just flutters around.

Feeding the cat that hangs around. Not the home owners cat, but she takes care of his medical needs so he is safe to play with.

Dexter's request is to go exploring to the Jardin (sounds like har-deen).  Off we go.  It's about a 20 minute walk.  The Jardin is like the courtyard in the center of town.  After bowls of cereal for breakfast we were kind of looking for an early lunch.  In Mexico they don't eat lunch until after 1.  We find an older American couple at the coffee shop and they give us some ideas on where to eat.  They also tell us where to buy a newspaper to find out what's going on in town.  It's a bilingual paper.

We find a spot to eat.  We order tacos, enchiladas, pancakes and bacon, and a croissant.  Interesting combination, huh?
Buying the balloons

He's so happy with his new pink kitty.  Daddy is thrilled.

Can you believe with all of the planning we did, we didn't buy a spanish-english dictionary?   Dexter and I both took spanish.  We are doing pretty well getting around.  Occasionally we get stuck and someone walking by hears us and offers help.  People have been so friendly to offer to help.  At one point we are trying to figure out what the balloon man is telling us...."cien".  We can't figure it out.  Someone walks by and says "100pesos".  Walker says. "oh yeah, I just had a test on numbers 1-100 and I remembered "cien" is "the end".  AUGHHHH!!!

So a stop at the bibliotecha and we have a new book for Porter and a spaninsh english dictionary. We also find out there is a Christmas play at 5:00.  Sounds fun we'll be back.   We take a taxi home an adventure in itself.  At home Tony the house manager takes us to the grocery store.  Then back home for about an hour to chill.

Off we go to the Christmas play.  None of the kids want to go, but it will be fun we tell them.  Probably a short play about Christmas.  Boy how wrong we were......it was like a Mexican soap opera.  Complete with a devil, a devil in drag, girls dressed in devil costumes provocatively dancing.  Remember this is a Christmas program at the library.  We stayed about 50 minutes and the kids were totally losing it and everyone was starving, so we sneaked out after the 3rd act.

We walked back to the Jardin to eat pizza for dinner.  $70 for 2 med. pizzas, nachos, and guacamole.  Not a cheap meal, but hit the spot.  The boys devoured the pizza.  We ran into the same couple from the morning and they gave us some pointers on where to eat.  The Jardin was coming alive waiting for a Christmas parade that comes every night.  We are totally worn out so we will try the parade another night.

It's home to bed for the Phillips fam.  It's amazing how exhausted we have been.  I think just being out of your comfort zone really takes its toll on you.
